Upcoming Sunday School Class

Upcoming Sunday School Class

11 Sundays Jan. 14 - Mar. 24, 2024 | 9:15am-10:30am

Insights from the family of Jacob and the life of Joseph (Gen. 37:2–50:26). Growing up in a dysfunctional family is not a choice anyone would or could make. Joseph found himself in one such family. Little did he know that the faithful God was intent on blessing his whole family to fashion a motley band of brothers into a great nation. Through small group discussions, we will reflect on the life of Joseph (Gen. 37–50) to see how God intends to bless us in and through our families. (Pre-reading of the Scripture text expected before each study. Registration secures one of 36 available spaces.)

Retirement:
After retirement, we became fishers “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” (Matt. 4:19) We try to do two overseas “fishing trips” a year. This February, we will have a Fraser Lands Team, travelling with us to Cambodia (February 22 – March 7, 2024).

Thanksgiving:
God sent us the right people to join our team. We have several experienced children workers; an expert in computer hard/software to work in schools there.

Prayer:
(1) Fishing inside a Buddhist country, is like trespassing on our enemy’s turf, we covet divine protection.
(2) May God give wisdom to our translators, to help interpret our English into Khmer precisely.
(3) May the love of God transcend all cultural barriers, and impact lives.

After the departure of our team, both of us will stay behind (March 7 – 21) to serve with another organization, to observe, learn, and perhaps to pave the way for the next fishing trip.

Jackie Wong

Jackie Wong

Introduction:
Jackie works both in Vancouver and in Guatemala as the Development Manager of EDUPAVI Canada, which partners with local Guatemalan organizations to promote God’s restoration of broken cycles through education.

Praise:
As EDUPAVI celebrated its 4th birthday in November, we also celebrated the completion of our first year as an officially credited school in Guatemala! By God’s grace, over 70 children completed their school year (which is a huge accomplishment in low-income communities in Guatemala) and were able to receive love, personalized educational support, and the message of a Good Father’s hope on a daily basis. We were also able to support and educate over 40 mothers in our program, many of whom are single parents and/or bear the burden of care in their families.

Prayer:
Please pray for Jackie as she prepares to lead two separate teams of young adults to Guatemala this year, coordinate the planting of EDUPAVI’s first longer-term international field worker, and be in Guatemala on her own for several trips to continue her work with EDUPAVI’s partner organization (the first of which will be from Feb. 1-Apr. 4). Pray for God’s story to be told through the lives of the people called to go, the dedicated teachers in Guatemala, and the students who are so dearly loved by their Creator.
