Lytton – Two Years Later

June 30, 2023, marked the second anniversary of the wildfires that destroyed 90% of Lytton. Six members from Fraser Lands made the trip to help at an event organized by the Lytton Anglican Parish to commemorate the occasion and bless the rebuilding of the community.

There were over 80 people who attended the event including the Mayor and Council members of Lytton, Jackie Tegart MLA for the Lytton area, Fire and Rescue Service members, and many Lytton residents. The service was held in the village site with a blessing ceremony conducted by the Anglican Priest and Pastoral Elders. We also offered words of encouragement along with a representative from Samaritan’s Purse and a Buddhist monk. The activities concluded with a sushi lunch we served at the Anglican Parish Hall.

The occasion provided a physical meeting of the Lytton people to remember the June 30th fire. More importantly, it provided a spiritual gathering to continue the healing. There was a sense of comfort and hope as we walked and prayed together and look ahead to the rebuilding of a new Lytton. We talked about the ongoing preparation for the reconstruction and anticipate the issuance of the first Building Permit for the village rebuilding.

Our next trip to Lytton will be a BIG one. We have been invited again to organize a children's carnival for the River Festival on Saturday September 2, 2023. The annual Lytton River Festival is a celebration of two great rivers – the Thompson and Fraser – and their historic and present role in the community. We need about 30 to 40 people for the trip to conduct games and crafts for the event. Please consider making the trip with us. As usual, it will be a long day trip for the ministry team, but a truly rewarding experience – guaranteed!

We appreciate your continued prayer for Lytton. Please contact Jamie at nolaifamily@gmail.com (778-552-3123) or Samantha at mmmcsam@gmail.com (778-999-1204) for more information and register for the trip.
